Following the recent rapid collapse of Sam Bankman-Fried’s (SBF) group of companies, FTX users have had their cryptocurrency assets frozen. Some European customers have received emails in the past 48 hours indicating that they may be able to recover their digital assets. However, it is unclear whether these emails are legitimate or a phishing attempt, so caution is advised to avoid taking any unnecessary risks at this time.
New Email Asks Users To Reset Password To Recover Money
There is currently no official confirmation regarding the legitimacy of an email purportedly from FTX that has been circulating. It is recommended that users exercise caution and not take any risks until there is an explicit confirmation. The email in question appears to have been sent from “support@ftxeurope.eu” and was received by FTX EU customers who registered after March 2022. The email prompts users to reset their password or login into their account to recover the lost money. However, since a user’s password is the only barrier to protecting their crypto assets from potential hackers, it is advisable to wait for confirmation before taking action.
Update:
After almost five months since its collapse and bankruptcy in November, the global trading platform has reportedly obtained approval for a new website domain name, ftxeurope, from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, as per a report in Finance Magnates. According to an email received by FTX Europe, the new domain will only be used for impacted customers to claim their FIAT balances and will not offer any products or services. The announcement from FTX Europe is as follows:
“Please be informed that our new domain, www.ftxeurope.eu, has been approved by our regulator CySEC as you have identified well. The website will only be used for all FTX EU LTD clients to be able to claim their FIAT balances. There will be no services or products offered via this website.”
FTX Users in Japan Were Able to Save Their Money
Although FTX Japan allowed its Japanese customers to recover their cryptocurrencies at the end of February, the situation with FTX users is currently unclear, with a lack of official communication. It is advisable to exercise caution, wait, and observe. After waiting over five months since November 2022, it would be regrettable not to wait a little longer for an official confirmation. We will keep you informed as the situation develops.
