NFTs are declining but not yet gone. An NFT of a key was sold for $1.6 million (1,000 ether) on Monday, evoking the bull run of 2021 when unusual NFTs fetched baffling sums of money. The Bored Ape Yacht Club plays a vital role in this trade, as it has in the majority of high-value NFT deals in recent months.
The creators of BAYC, Yuga Laboratories, have been experimenting with incorporating games and a story into an NFT mint for the past months. A short film, “The Trial of Jimmy the Monkey,” was launched in December. In the film, a character named Jimmy breaks the fabric of spacetime by taking “an atomic poo.” Jimmy unintentionally eats a curious key that an antiquated monkey presents as they emerge from the portal. To remove it, he rushes to the restroom but instead collapses.
Dookey Dash Rejuvenates the Market
Dookey Dash, an endless runner, is the result of these aforementioned projects. Creators of Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs received an airdropped Sewer Pass NFT that gave them access to the game Dookey Dash, in which players play as an ape trying to locate Jimmy and grab the key from him while traversing a sewage system. The Sewer Pass NFTs alone were selling for thousands of dollars.
Dookey Dash was intended to be a three-week event. On February 8, the leaderboards came to an end, and prizes based on high rankings were distributed. Unexpectedly, an esports pro—an 18-year-old British called Kyle “Mongraal” Jackson, who is well-known for his Fortnite streams—earned the highest score. On February 15, Mongraal’s Sewer Pass NFT was changed into Jimmy’s key.
Mongraal Sold the NFT for $1.6 Million
Mongraal declared his intention to sell the crucial NFT for 1,000 ether, which is presently worth $1.6 million. “I have agreed to sell the key for 1000 ETH to @AdamWeitsman,” the esports pro tweeted. Super nice guy and thrilled the sale went through to him.”
